A representative for Wisconsin Congressman Tom Tiffany will propose a bill to redesignate the Apostle Islands from a National Lakeshore to a National Park at the Federal Land Subcommittee meeting July 24th. The redesignation would make the Apostle Islands the first National Park in Wisconsin.

The Apostle Islands have been designated as a National Lakeshore since 1970. If the redesignation bill receives support, it could be moved forward as early as by the end of 2024.

Tom Tiffany hopes the redesignation bill will garner bipartisan support. If passed, the redesignation aims to drive tourism to the Apostle Islands and surrounding area including Bayfield Wisconsin.

“There are so many features unique to the Apostle Islands,” said Wisconsin Congressman Tom Tiffany. “It’s a combination of things that make the Apostle Islands a truly special place, not just to the people of Wisconsin and the upper Great Lakes, but to the entire United States.”
