Food Truck Friday: Twin Port’s Express
After climbing Enger Tower, ice cream sounds awfully refreshing. Luckily, Twin Port’s Express is in the parking lot five days a week.
“Well, we do about eight flavors of ice cream. We have a full barista. We have breakfast burritos, dinner burritos, and quesadillas,” Scott Mabusth said.
His wife Marianne takes the orders, and he mans the scooping, espresso making, and burrito assembling.
They started the trailer as a weekend side gig while Scott was working as general manager at the Duluth Panera Bread location. Business was so good they made it their full-time careers.
“Here, you get all the vacationers. And everyone is always happy here. It’s very seldom we get anyone that’s upset at all. They’re all smiling,” Scott said. “You give a child ice cream, they’re grinnin’ ear-to-ear.”
The affogato is a popular ice cream dish for adults.
“Basically what we’re doing is two scoops of vanilla ice cream, and we’re doing the two shots of espresso on top,” Scott said. “And you can get like a caramel topping or a chocolate topping on top too.”
Twin Port’s Express is in the Enger Tower parking lot from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday. Scott and Marianne will also take the trailer to Duluth’s Music in the Park series on Tuesday evenings at Chester and Lester parks.
