Former Superior Police Officer sentenced for deadly crash
Former Superior Police Sgt. Greg Swanson was sentenced Wednesday, July 17 in the Douglas County Courthouse for two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle for a July 15, 2022 crash that killed two. Swanson was sentenced to 10 years on each count; 5 years confinement and 5 years supervised probation served concurrently
Swanson had previously plead guilty to the two counts in April 2024.
The prosecution cited the fact that the defendant was a police officer who was supposed to protect the community. They also stated that he should have known the risks of impaired driving.
Court documents state that Swanson was traveling 54 mph in a 35 mph zone and that his BAC was .19 an hour and a half after the accident.
Swanson’s attorney offered his deepest condolences to the family of the victims involved.
In 2022, Swanson hit another car on the 5200 block of E 2nd Street in Superior. A 23-year-old man died on scene and an infant died later after being taken off life support.
