Upper Midwest governors endorse Kamala Harris for president
Following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not be running for president, and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to run, Upper Midwest governors have joined together to endorse Harris for president.
Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer made her endorsement Monday and in a press release says that the endorsement was in unison with Governor Tim Walz, Governor Tony Evers, and Governor J.B. Pritzker (Illinois).
Gov. Whitmer said in the statement that she is “fired up to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States.” She stressed that Michigan voters have a presidential candidate that they can count on to focus on lower costs, building an economy that works for the people and restoring freedoms.
Governor Whitmer’s Statement:
“Today, I am fired up to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States. In Vice President Harris, Michigan voters have a presidential candidate they can count on to focus on lowering their costs, restoring their freedoms, bringing jobs and supply chains back home from overseas, and building an economy that works for working people. She’s a former prosecutor, a champion for reproductive freedom, and I know that she’s got Michigan’s back. That’s in stark contrast to Donald Trump, a convicted felon who stokes violence, overturned Roe, attacked our auto industry which hardworking families depend on, left office after losing 100,000 manufacturing jobs, and drove our economy into the ground last time he was in the White House. Vice President Harris has my full support. So Michigan, let’s get to work. We cannot let Donald Trump anywhere near the White House. Let’s go!”
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz shared a picture of he and Vice President Kamala Harris on X, saying “You have my full support.”
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers says Kamala Harris is a tenacious leader. He said in a statement that he is “excited to endorse Vice President Harris as our nominee for President of the United States.”
Governor Evers’ Statement:
“Vice President Kamala Harris is a tenacious leader who has vigorously defended our democracy, fought to protect the freedoms we hold dear, and worked tirelessly to do the right thing and deliver for us. I’m excited today to endorse Vice President Harris as our nominee for President of the United States. She can beat Donald Trump, and I’m going to do everything I can between now and November 5th to help make sure she does.”
