CSS elevates Christian Butler to interim head men's basketball coach

Last Thursday the College of St. Scholastica (CSS) announced that David Staniger stepped down as their men’s basketball head coach after 24 seasons. Then on Monday they elevated one of his assistants.

Christian Butler has been named Interim Head Coach of CSS men’s basketball.

Butler was hired on as an assistant coach by Staniger for the 2023-2024 season. He previously spent three years as an assistant coach for Aurora University. Prior to that, the Hope College alum joined their staff as a Student Assistant Coach for three years. Then he pursued a Masters degree from Montana State University Billings, where he was also a graduate assistant coach for two years.

This will be Butler’s first head coaching opportunity.
