Name released in deadly St. Louis County ATV crash

One person is dead and another hurt after an ATV crash Saturday afternoon on a trail in Balkan Township, which is between Chisholm and Buhl.
When first responders arrived around 3:40 p.m., they found a side-by-side ATV with damage on its roof. Authorities believe the vehicle rolled and ejected two passenger who were not wearing seatbelts.
A 29-year-old man from Chisholm was driving the ATV. His passenger, Kevin Joseph Jamnick (31) of Hibbing, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was treated at the University Medical Center Mesabi and released.
Authorities believe that speed and alcohol are parts of what caused the crash. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Chisholm Police Department, Chisholm Ambulance, Chisholm Fire Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad, and Lifelink Air Ambulance.
