Mickey Bell performs clean comedy with a message, and he’s bringing his show to Duluth in August.

Bell will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at Revive City Church during “A Night of Laughs and Music.” There’s no cost to attend, although there will be an offering taken.

He got into comedy during the COVID-19 pandemic, “which is the perfect time to have a career change.”

“But really, I came out of a very dark place. I was on the bottom, battling mental illness, and honestly was fighting for my life,” Bell said. “And comedy saved my life.”

It gave him a purpose and a reason to get out of bed. And he shares that journey in his show.

“Our brain and our emotions kind of tell us that when you’re down in the dumps and you’re crying, you feel like you’re at your worst, but something happens that when you start laughing, you start realizing, you know what, it’s really not as bad as I thought it was,” he said.

He says clean comedy means he doesn’t swear. It’s important that the whole family can attend.

“There’s just something unique and very precious about being able to sit there as a family and enjoy an event,” Bell said. “We’re going to talk about mental illness. I’m going to share my story in-depth. We’re going to encourage people that are battling any type of depression or anxiety, that will be a safe place for you to come. And we’re just going to laugh and have a good time, and people are going to leave encouraged.”
