McGregor man charged in assault of child

Nicholas Anderson, 38, of McGregor, Minnesota has been charged on seven counts for the assault of a child. Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida states that Anderson was arrested on July 29, 2024.

“This case started on Sunday, April 7th 2024 when social services placed an emergency hold on an infant that was brought into Grand Itasca Hospital,” explained Guida. “Medical professionals there believed the infant to be a victim of abuse and or neglect, based on the nature and significance of the injuries. An investigation ensued and the collaboration efforts of Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office Investigator A. Cook, Aitkin County Social Services, and many medical professionals ruled the infant’s injuries as deliberate. Further investigation provided evidence leading to the arrest of Anderson, father of the infant.”

Guida continued that the infant is currently in protective custody.

Anderson appeared in court, July 31, but has been released from custody.

His seven charges are Felony Assault-3rd Degree-Substantial Bodily Harm, Felony Assault 3rd Degree, Felony Malicious Punishment of a Child – Under 4 Years of Age, Felony Malicious Punishment of a Child – Substantial Bodily Harm, Felony Assault-3rd Degree-Substantial Bodily Harm, Felony Assault-3rd Degree-Past Pattern of Child Abuse, and Felony Malicious Punishment of a Child – Substantial Bodily Harm.
