FEMA inspectors begin work in St. Louis county

As cleanup and recovery efforts continue after June’s floods in St. Louis County, inspectors from FEMA are now touring the Northland to inspect damaged homes.

Starting Saturday, August 3, inspections of houses will begin. Authorities say these are necessary for anyone seeking financial assistance through the agency.

Thanks to a presidential disaster declaration, federal financial aid is available for eligible homeowners and renters who were impacted by the flooding.

FEMA assistance includes grants to help pay for housing repairs, temporary housing, and loans to help cover uninsured losses of property.

Those who were affected by flooding can fill out a form online to have their house added to FEMA’s inspection list.  The form asks for things like the address, contact information, as well as information about flooding damage.

Those unable to fill out the form on the internet can call 1-800-621-3362.

FEMA inspections are free and are currently for residential properties only. Authorities say that commercial properties that sustained damage will be inspected at a later date.
