Trailblazer Tamara Moore steps down from Mesabi Range basketball to become NBA scout

In 2020, Tamara Moore took over the Mesabi Range men’s basketball program, becoming the first female black head coach of a men’s collegiate basketball program.

On Wednesday, Moore announced that she’d be stepping back from Mesabi Range basketball for good, in turn accepting a new position.

Moore will become an NBA scout for the Dallas Mavericks for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.

Moore served as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics summer league team in 2022, and was a professional in her own right, playing in the NBA and Europe.
