Lea Zmurko: Widespread showers and cooler conditions

August 15: Dreary weather across the Northland

It will be a rainy and dreary Thursday in the mid-sixties across the Northland as we end the week with cooler temperatures.

A low-pressure system continues its path towards the Northlands in the early morning hours bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to the region. The rain will last through Friday with some cloudy breaks and periods of light rain amidst the moderate to heavy rainfall.

There will be an initially wave with widespread rain that will settle along the Arrowhead in the afternoon. Models are suggesting 1-2 inches of rain, but more can be expected across the North Shore this afternoon. As we move into Thursday evening and Friday morning, the more impressive rainfall amounts will fall across northwest Wisconsin as more isolated thunderstorms will trek across that region.

There is no severe weather anticipated, but the key risk with this system is gusts of winds and elevated streamflow and ponding on roadways. Winds will be strong with gusts around 20-30 mph across northwest Wisconsin.

The skies will clear up Friday night and the weekend will be warm and sunny with mild temperatures returning for the week to come.
