Bong Bridge improvement project plans to get ahead of the rush
Wisconsin Department of Transportation held a public meeting on Wednesday August 21st to discuss plans for the Bong Bridge improvement project.
Plans for project come ahead of the Blatnik Bridge replacement project, which will drive traffic to the Bong Bridge as a detour option.
The project aims to make to complete spot painting, make spot concrete repairs, replace the rubber strip seal on the main bridge span’s joints, seal the ridge deck, and replace light bases and poles.
The construction plans to keep at least one lane of traffic in each direction throughout the duration of the project. However, the US 2 on- and off-ramps on the Minnesota side of the Bong Bridge will be closed, with traffic detours during various stages of work.
They also plan on closing the sidewalk along the structure for an estimated two to three weeks while the outer lanes are closed for structure work.
The Bong Bridge improvement project is planned for the summer of 2025.
