First Block Kids event coming up in Hibbing, registration is now open

First Block Kids event is coming up in Hibbing in October

NAWIC Chapter 392 is proud to be hosting their first Block Kids event in October, where kids will compete with Legos!

Do your kids love Legos? Well, if they’re in 3rd or 4th grade, they can sign up for a free competition coming up.

It’s the first annual Block Kids event, put on by NAWIC Chapter 392 Twin Ports/Iron Range.

NAWIC stands for National Association of Women in Construction. The chapter is now three years old, and they are focused on more outreach. They have 25 members, and continue to grow.

“It’s going to be great. We’re going to introduce kids to construction and design and engineering careers, plus have some hands on activities and tours of the college,” shared Morgan Seopa, incoming president of the chapter. She’s also a project manager with Max Gray Construction in Hibbing.

“We are super excited to get the younger generations involved. And why not with Legos?” Angela Heikkila shared. She’s an incoming director of the chapter, and an electrician by trade. “They’ll create something with Legos, and other materials, and judges will choose who moves on to the regional competition.”

Block Kids is a joint effort between NAWIC and the National Education Foundation.

Registration is now open. It’s limited to 40 kids, so sign up now! https://www.nawic392.org/event-details/block-kids-2024-participant-registration

It’s coming up on Saturday, October 5th, at Minnesota North Hibbing. And it’s free!
