Sabrina Ullman: Storms likely Thursday
Tonight will be mostly cloudy with overnight lows in the upper 50s. A breezy east wind will become southeasterly Thursday morning.
Thursday will begin cloudy but dry for most of the region. A few morning showers are possible in northwest Koochiching County and portions of Lake of the Woods and Beltrami Counties. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon to evening hours.
Rainfall amounts of over an inch are likely. In the early evening, scattered severe thunderstorms are possible for areas stretching from Brainerd to Pine and Burnett Counties. Large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain, and an isolated tornado are all possible within these storms.
This round of storms will pass through fairly quickly, exiting by midnight. Afternoon highs for Thursday will range from the upper 60s and low 70s in the Twin Ports and north to the low 80s in areas south.
Friday will be sunny with afternoon highs in the upper 70s. Warmth will continue for Saturday, and then a weak cold front will move through Saturday night. Afternoon highs will return to the upper 60s and low 70s for a few days starting Sunday.
