Tower Ave rebuild project moves forward
Plans are moving forward in Superior, Wisconsin to rebuild Tower Avenue.
On September 3, Superior Mayor Jim Paine announced on Facebook that he hoped to begin a $1 million repair project to help stabilize the roadway soon.
“We did kind of the same patching that we would always do, but it was in particularly rough shape this spring,” the mayor said in an interview with WDIO, “So it’s almost more patched than it is concrete at this point.”
The multi-phase project will start with removing and replacing concrete south of 28th Street in Superior. The following year, the city plans to rebuild the nearly one mile stretch of roadway from 28th Street to Belknap Street. Mayor Paine calls this one of the most significant road construction projects the city has taken on in decades.
“We’re not just replacing streets as they are, we’re making an effort every single time you do a street project to build it better so it lasts longer, to make it more beautiful so the neighborhoods are better, and to make it safer so folks can actually move around safely in their neighborhoods.”
While the city is still planning and getting bids, the mayor told WDIO the project could cost around $2-4 million, and construction, which begins in the fall of next year, could stretch into 2026.
