Monday, the DECC announced that Broadway national tours will be returning to Symphony hall in 2025.

They have 4 shows scheduled for their first season back:
Chicago– January 21, 2025
Pretty Woman– February 16, 2025
Mean Girls– April 7, 2025
Riverdance– May 17, 2025

At Monday’s ribbon cutting, the DECC went into how excited they are to bring more theatre to the Zenith City. “This is the highest level you’re going to have of these shows which then inspires people who do this even more which is great on so many levels,” says DECC executive Director Dan Hartman.

Season tickets go on sale at the DECC September 13th. Individual tickets for specific shows will drop closer to when the show open.

Hartman says they tested the waters for a Broadway season inaugural back when ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ performed at Symphony Hall. He says, “Not only did it work, but it surpassed the last three shows that they had. And so it was like, ‘okay we can do this, the audience is ready for it.'”

The convention center is working with Roberts Group who organized the season and says there’s already a second one in the works. They’re also excited to bring the tours to Duluth. Managing Director Daniel Hampel says, “These shows will play Minneapolis, they’ll play Detroit, They already have played major markets around the country, they are on tour.”

When asked about the future of touring productions that could come to Duluth Hampel says, :”Wicked, Lion King, Hamilton, those are shows that we’ve presented in one or two of our other markets. We’d have to be able to guarantee that they are going to sell 30,000 plus tickets. And the goal would be to have a Wicked, a Lion King, a Hamilton here in Duluth one day.”

With an abundance of theatre produced locally in Duluth Hartman says there’s more of an opportunity for local artists to get inspired. “The more of this that we do, and people get really excited about coming to the theatre, that’s going to help everyone locally in the theatre market grow,” he says.
