Prep soccer: Duluth East protects home pitch, Hermantown shuts down Denfeld
In prep soccer on Tuesday, Duluth East boys beat Grand Rapids 4-1, while Hermantown went on the road and beat Duluth Denfeld, 2-0.
For Duluth East, they took control of the game in the first half, with goals from both Zach Wallerstein and Brody Mitchell to put them up 2-0.
The Thunderhawks would strike back before the end of the half though, as Dean Kortekaas found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half.
However, the second half went the Greyhounds way, scoring two more goals to put the Thunderhawks away.
Duluth East next takes on Cloquet/Esko/Carlton on Thursday, while Grand Rapids looks to bounce back against Mesabi East Area.
In girls soccer, Hermantown marched into Denfeld and came away with a 2-0 win.
In the first half, it was a highly defensive battle, but Hermantown’s Sidney Shubitz scored off a penalty kick to open up the scoring.
In the second half, Bryden Giesen connected on one, and scored to extend the lead to 2-0, which would be the final.
Hermantown will try to win another against Esko on Thursday, while Denfeld looks to rebound against Hibbing/Chisholm on Thursday.
