Fresh off their program’s first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2021 the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) women’s soccer team has already notched two scrimmages under their belts for 2022.
The defending Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) champion Yellowjackets return just six upperclassmen from last fall when they finished 18-4-1 overall, going undefeated in conference play.
“I think having that sense of confidence that we’ve done it before is so key,” head coach Allison DeGroot shared. “What I’d really like to see is, our returners did a lot of work over the summer, they’re ready to go. They already understand the shape that we’re trying to accomplish, the tactics that we’re trying to accomplish.”
Their roster boasts only one senior in midfielder Kenzie Oehlerking. Well versed in UMAC opponents she hopes to pass down her knowledge to help the program earn their second straight conference title.
“There’s a lot of new freshmen, so just excited to see what the new team can do and hopefully make another run at the NCAA tournament,” Oehlerking said.
UWS kicks off their season Thursday, September 1 hosting Augsburg University at 1:30 p.m.
