When you have summer temperatures in September, that can only lead to one thing, strong thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. However, the greater risk will be on Thursday. Severe weather is possible Thursday afternoon and evening. A brief tornado or two is possible in the late afternoon and early evening. Large hail up to 2″ in diameter or larger are possible. Winds could gust up to 60 mph or more. You can see from the other graphic the ideal time will be between 3pm and 7pm.

As far as the timing, the initial round overnight tonight should taper off through mid-morning Thursday. The second, more likely severe, round ignites in the afternoon hours, continuing into the evening as it pushes east. Following in behind these storms Friday will see plenty of sunshine and temperatures will be slightly cooler. By the beginning of next week fall returns with temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
