Duluth East & Denfeld boys soccer flex defensive muscles in crosstown clash

Neither the Duluth East nor Duluth Denfeld boys soccer teams would flinch in net Wednesday. Their crosstown clash would end in a scoreless tie at Denfeld High School.

With seconds remaining in the game Duluth East was awarded a free kick, but Lundin Flohaug’s shot just cleared the crossbar ending the game 0-0. The Greyhounds tested the Hunters’ senior keeper Cannon Peak, but he’d stand strong making 10 saves. Denfeld was up against junior Gray Knutson who’d make five saves.

With the tie, Denfeld snaps Duluth East’s six game rivalry winning streak, which dates back to 2019. The Hunters’ last win in the series came in 2017.

Next Denfeld (3-5-3) visits Mesabi East Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. Duluth East (5-4-3) next visits Grand Rapids Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
