Byron Negen named Rock Ridge girl’s basketball head coach

A few weeks ago Rock Ridge named Spencer Aune their boys basketball coach, they tabbed Byron Negen to take over the first-ever Wolverine girl’s program.

"I’m excited to just try something new. I think it’s just the opportunity to try to put those kids together, and put the best team on the floor, along with just building a program. I’m excited about building from the elementary on up to the varsity, that’s just an exciting process for me," said Negen.

He’s no stranger to Iron Range hoops, having coached both the Mountain Iron-Buhl boy’s and girl’s programs for the last three years. Prior to that he spent 12 seasons as the head coach of the Virginia girls’ team.

Negen added that he’s excited to have been chosen to help bring the three cities of Eveleth, Gilbert, and Virginia together on the court.
