Some minor injuries after Ashland school bus crash

The School District of Ashland says a school bus was involved in an accident on Monday at 8:03 a.m. The district says emergency personnel responded and everyone is safe, although some of the passengers had minor injuries. The injured were taken to Tamarack Health Medical Center for evaluation.

According to the Ashland Police Department, the school bus was traveling west on Binsfield Road, at the intersection of Farm Road in Ashland. Police say an SUV driven by a 28-year-old woman from Bessemer, Michigan was traveling east on Binsfield Road and turned left to go on Farm Road. The SUV made the turn directly in front of the bus.

The bus struck the front passenger corner of the SUV. The driver of the vehicle had minor injuries and was treated at Ashland Medical Center. Authorities say the bus driver and the 25 students were transported by a separate bus to the medical facility and examined. There were no visible injuries reported.

Officials at the school says it was the #3 Lakeshore Bus Company bus heading to Lake Superior Elementary School. The school contacted the parents and guardians of the children affected.

Students were reportedly taken to the school to either continue with class or be picked up by a parent or guardian.

In a letter sent out to parents, the district thanked Lakeshore Bus Company and emergency personnel for “their quick and excellent response to this situation.”

Police plan to cite the driver for failure to yield right of way.

The Ashland Police Department were assisted by the Ashland Fire Department and Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.
