In 2024, Grandma’s Marathon saw over 10,000 people register for the race in just 5 hours. Grandma’s Marathon Public Relations and Marketing Director, Zach Schneider, says this year will most likely look similar.

Schneider notes the 2025 marathon will be similar to last year’s race except for the William A. Irvin 5k. That’s going to have a new route and start time.

This comes after construction outside the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center. The new route will take participants on Canal Park Drive and underneath the finish structure that will be set up for the following day’s events, Grandma’s Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.

“To run on the actual finish stretch of our marathon and half marathon, to be able to cross under that finish line structure, we believe that’s a unique and exciting opportunity for our 5K participants.”

The William A. Irvin will start at 1:00 p.m. rather than their typical 6:00 p.m. time frame.

If you need practice before the big marathon, Grandma’s hosts several events through the Fall and Winter. One to look out for is coming up on Saturday, October 26th. The Superior Nightmare 5k will start at 11:00 a.m. down at Hammond Park. And don’t forget to dress in your best Halloween costume!
