Vehicle strikes tent, injuring event goers in Cass County

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a runaway vehicle accident during the Minnesota Chainsaw Carving event in Hackensack, Minnesota. According to the report, authorities received calls about a vehicle going through a tent and striking multiple people on Saturday, September 28 at 3:37 p.m.

Four adults participating in the annual event were inside the tent at the time. One person was transported by North Memorial Air Care to a hospital in Duluth with what authorities say were serious injuries. Three others were treated on scene for minor injuries, then transported by private vehicles to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Following an investigation, Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk says an 80-year-old man was attempting to park a 2021 Honda Pilot at the event. When the man got out of the vehicle, the Pilot started moving away from the parking spot. He tried to get back into the car to put it into park, but the Pilot continued into the tent.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation and alcohol is not a factor in the incident.

Assisting at the scene was the Hackensack Fire and Rescue, North Memorial Ambulance and Air Care and the Walker Police Department.
