The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s volleyball team is looking to rebound after their first 3-0 loss of the 2024-2025 season.

After beginning the season with a 7-0 record, the Bulldogs began to struggle in conference play falling to Winona State University and Concordia-St. Paul 3-2. Then on Tuesday, they suffered their first 3-0 loss to St. Cloud State University. At practice Wednesday UMD shared hopes to battle back in conference play this weekend.

“We realized that teams are going to push us around, and we need to push each other around in practice so that we can be more prepared for St. Cloud, SMSU, Concordia. Because it’s not going to get any easier,” said Maddi Kealy, a UMD graduate student and setter.

“I think they’re over analyzing circumstances and not just figuring out by looking at the picture, ‘what is it I need to do here to make this play’. It was a tough practice, we pushed them hard, they pushed each other hard, they competed today, and this is what we need to get back to doing,” said head coach Jim Boos.

The 15th ranked Bulldogs are set to host two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponents this weekend. First is Friday, October 4 when UMD welcomes No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State (13-0) at 6 p.m. Then Saturday, Oct. 5 UMD hosts the University of Sioux Falls (8-4) at 2 p.m. at Romano Gym.
