UMD men’s hockey prepares for home season debut against Bemidji State
On Saturday, the University of Minnesota Duluth men’s hockey team open their newest campaign at home against Bemidji State. The matchup will also be the debut of Hermantown brothers Zam and Max Plante in Bulldog jerseys.
18-year-old Max spent the last two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program. While 20-year-old Zam skated two years in the USHL with Chicago and Fargo, winning the Clark Cup with the Fargo Force in the 2023-24 season.
“Zam is a motor, his motor is always going. Max is a really skilled player. He’s really developed like physically too over the last two years. When you put them together, whether they stay together for lengthy periods of time or all year or part of the year, it’s amazing the chemistry. They know where each other is. They’ve got really good hockey IQ. I love their compete,” said UMD men’s hockey head coach Scott Sandelin.
Both brothers are currently on a forward line with Warroad native and 2023 Mr. Hockey Jayson Shaugabay.
The Bulldogs open their season at home on Saturday, October 5th, hosting Bemidji State at 5pm, then Sunday they host Manitoba at 2pm.
