Exeland man treated for self-inflicted gunshot wound following standoff
The Sawyer County Sheriff’s office has released details regarding a disturbance call from Thursday night. According to the report, Sawyer County deputies responded to a disturbance call involving a firearm just before 7 p.m. Thursday in the Village of Exeland, east of Spooner, Wisconsin.
According to authorities, the alleged suspect, 42-year-old Jason P. Arnold had an active felony warrant in Washburn County, and was in violation of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. A search warrant was issued.
The report says SWAT teams from the area were called and after a standoff that lasted for hours, chemical munitions were used at 11:20 p.m. After about 40 minutes, police say Arnold shot at the armored SWAT vehicles. There was no gun fire by law enforcement. Negotiations continued for several hours and at 4:56 a.m., authorities used chemical munitions again.
The report says Arnold came out of the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was treated by Sawyer County EMS at the scene and flown to a Minnesota hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The investigation continues in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation and Wisconsin State Patrol. The Superior SWAT team was called to assist as were SWAT teams from Sawyer/Washburn/Burnett and Barron/Rusk.
