Every October, Miller Hill Subaru partners with regional animal shelters to help find animals a loving home. This year, they hosted Animal Allies, The Babinski Foundation, Lake County Humane Society and Chequamegon Human Association.

“We’re at the annual Miller Hill Adopt-a-Pet event. This is our fifth year being a part of it. It’s one of our best events of the year as far as getting animals adopted. They have a great turnout. First few hours is pretty crazy. And the majority of the animals will get adopted in the first hour, hour and a half,” said Donna Sutton, Executive Director of The Babinski Foundation.

With many shelters overflowing with strays and surrenders, the success of Miller Hill Subaru’s event allows for shelters to help more pets in need.

“So, this is going to open up more space for our local shelters. And I know shelters have waiting lists. Right now, there’s such a demand for surrenders, stray dogs. So, this helps open up more space for more cats and dogs to be brought in and sheltered safe,” said Sutton.

And with more room in regional shelters, they have the chance to help not only local animals – but those impacted by events such as the displacement caused by Hurricane Helene or other storms.

“They always reach out to the southern states. We try to get down there and help the southern states in these situations. But unfortunately, we haven’t been able to because of our capacity of animals. So, this event will help open up another 16 spaces for dogs for us and then additional cats,” said Sutton.

Over 80 cats and dogs were able to find loving homes throughout the weekend’s event.
