Linemen from the Northland headed to Florida to help in aftermath of Milton

Over two dozen linemen and support staff from Minnesota Power and Superior Water, Light and Power are heading to Florida to support Tampa Electric Co.

The call for help came on Tuesday. And Minnesota Power said the roster was full within two hours.

The crews are expected to stay for two weeks, but it could be longer if needed. They are expected to arrive as the storm leaves.

“This really is who we are and what we do—we answer the call when other companies need help getting the lights and power back on. I couldn’t be prouder of our company’s commitment and our crews’ willingness to step up and help out our neighbors in need,” said Dan Gunderson, Vice President of Transmission and Distribution. “We have a long history of responding to severe weather events around the country, and our crews are well respected in terms of their expertise and work ethic.”

Minnesota Power said they’ve responded to hurricane help 7 times now in the past 20 years.
