Colten St. Clair resigns as head coach of Minnesota Wilderness

Colten St. Clair has resigned as head coach of the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) Cloquet based Minnesota Wilderness. The organization made the announcement late Wednesday night.

The Wilderness’ official release stated that the resignation is effective immediately and that, “St. Clair is moving on to pursue another coaching opportunity.” The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) made their own announcement Wednesday night naming St. Clair their newest head coach.

Assistant coach Evan Alexius has been named interim head coach of the Minnesota Wilderness, and Director of Player Personnel Kevin Smalley has been named interim assistant coach.

St. Clair, a Gilbert, Arizona native, just started his second season as head coach of the Wilderness. During his time in Cloquet, the Wilderness went 33-30-6 in the regular season, and 1-3 in the playoffs. Under St. Clair three skaters would snag Division I commitments; Ashton Dahms (Minnesota-Duluth), Ren Morque (Air Force Academy) and Gustavs Ozolins (Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute).

The Wilderness opened their season September 13 and currently sit 3-5-1. They next visit the Springfield Jr. Blues Friday, October 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Nelson Center. For their full schedule, Click here.
