Prep Soccer: Cloquet-Carlton girls, CEC & Hermantown boys win section semifinals

Top ranked Cloquet-Carlton girls’ soccer rode a first-round bye to Thursday night’s Section 7AA semifinals, looking to pass the 4th seeded Duluth Denfeld to return to the section finals.

The Lumberjacks started things off hot, Sarah Turner passed to Adeline Randall, but Denfeld’s Cayley Larsen made the stop. Hunters took their momentum towards the net, but Rylee Senich stopped any advance to keep the score at zero-zero. The Lumberjack’s Aubrey Pavlatos took a pass and raced down the field with two Hunters on the defense, but Pavlatos made a kick that sailed right into the back of the net to put Cloquet-Carlton on the board.

Cloquet-Carlton returns to the Section 7AA finals with a 2-0 win over Duluth Denfeld. Hermantown girl’s soccer took down Grand Rapids 2-1 in the Section 7AA semifinals. The Hawks will face Cloquet-Carlton in Cloquet on October 15th at 4:30PM in the title game. For the full bracket, Click Here.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys’ soccer battled Duluth Denfeld in their Section 7AA semi-finals.

Noah Hansen brought the ball up the left side and went for the shot, but Denfeld’s Cannon Peak made the block. Hunters then put the pressure on as Sam Eklund chipped a toe-shot to the left corner, but Cloquet-Esko-Carlton’s keeper keeps it scoreless. Lumberjack’s Jordan Sewell capitalized on some on-field confusion to make the score 1-0.

Grand Rapids and Hermantown boy’s soccer both looked to edge out a Section 7AA win to advance to the finals.

After a scoreless first half, Hermantown’s Hunter Nelson booted a high ball that hit the cross bar and deflected down and in to put the Hawks in the lead. Nelson sought his second goal of the night as he fired on net, but Rapids’ Evan Linnell scooped it up for the save. With under 11 minutes to go, Brennan Malmstrom passed up to Owen Landrigan, who struck the ball into the back corner.

Hermantown takes the 2-0 win over Grand Rapids to advance to the Section 7AA finals. Cloquet-Esko-Carlton will host Hermantown on October 15th at 7PM. For the full bracket, Click Here.

In Section 7AAA, the Duluth East girls shut out Blaine 2-0. They will host the winner of Friday’s Andover versus Centennial semifinal in the title game Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Duluth East boys saw their season come to an end falling 2-0 to Andover in their 7AAA semifinal.

In Section 7A, the Duluth Marshall boys held off PACT Charter School 1-0 to advance to the championship game. They will visit Legacy Christian Academy in the championship game Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Duluth Marshall girls will visit Esko in the 7A title game Tuesday at 6 p.m.
