Two Northland teams took on their respective St. Cloud Cathedral squads Thursday evening in the State Class A state soccer quarterfinals at Monticello High School.

No. 5 Esko girls’ soccer looked to book their first-time ticket to the State semifinals.

After going 0-0 all game, it would all come down to a shootout. Esko’s Britta Koski started things off strong, with both Reese Kuklinski and Liberty Clifford following suit. Goaltender Hannah Roemer holds St. Cloud Cathedral to only one goal, stopping the game and sending Esko straight into the Class A semifinals. Esko officially wins 1-0.

Esko will next battle Southwest Christian in the state semifinals at 5PM on October 29th at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Taking to the field right after, the Duluth Marshall boys’ soccer team hoped to have the same luck against the same school but ended their state tournament run after falling 2-1 against St. Cloud Cathedral.
