Duluth Fire Department’s 2024 Pinning Ceremony honors its members
On Monday afternoon, the Duluth Fire Department (DFD) took time to honor those in their department who have worked to receive a higher rank or passed probation with a special pinning ceremony.
“A lot of times do a lot of things with the community, but today we’re actually a little bit focused on ourselves, which is kind of uncomfortable for some of us, especially some of the newer members, but it’s important for them to be recognized for their promotions,” said DFD Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj.
Twenty-six DFD members were honored at the ceremony for their service to the department, and they all received pins by loved ones. DFD typically hosts a pinning ceremony every year, but this year’s event recognizes members who have completed probation or been promoted in the past two years as they did not hold a ceremony in 2023.
“I think it gives us a sense of pride to look at what we do, how we serve the community, and then how we take care of each other,” said Krizaj.
