Chum announces shelter expansion
In a statement given on October 29, Duluth’s Chum homeless shelter announced they’ll be expanding their facility starting in the spring of 2025.
Originally built in 1998, the shelter was designed with room for just 30, but Chum says it currently sees about 100 persons every day, with many sleeping on the floor due to the overcrowding.
Chum says an expansion will allow for more beds, space and services for those experiencing homelessness.
“Expanding our shelter is going to meet an unprecedented need in our community. The project is long
overdue, and guests at Chum shelter need a better space to be.” Chum director Bradley Zwagerman said in a press release, saying that the expansion will be beneficial to the community, but noted that more resources are required to help serve the community’s unhoused.
More details on Chum and their services can be found on their website.
