Angela Stroud wins Wisconsin Assembly District 73 seat

Update: Democrat Angela Stroud has won the seat for Wisconsin Assembly District 73. As of 12:39 a.m. on November 6 she has 15,426 votes (55.9%) with 99% of votes counted.

Original Story: Two newcomers, Republican Frank Kostka and Democrat Angela Stroud are running against each other for Wisconsin Assembly District 73 seat.

Republican Representative Angie Sapik did not seek reelection for this term after sworn-in in 2023.

Angela Stroud grew up in South Texas and obtained her PhD in sociology at the University of Texas, Austin. She moved to Ashland, Wisconsin in 2012 and works as an Associate Professor of Sociology and Social Justice at Northland College.

Stroud has run on a campaign of wanting to protect the Lake Superior Watershed, supporting school teaching, advocating for affordable housing, and preserving and protecting reproductive rights.

“From birth control and abortion care to the right to have a safe and healthy pregnancy, we need to expand access to high-quality, affordable healthcare,” said Stroud on her campaign website

Frank Kostka grew up in Ashland, Wisconsin and graduated from Ashland High School. After graduated he work a couple seasons sailing on the Great Lakes and then spent five years working in mines in Minnesota.

After that, Kostka joined the Air Force and retired from the service after 20 years. He then opened his own small business that he’s been operating for 30 years.

Kostka said he ran because he was not happy with any of the candidates in the Wisconsin Primary.

He said he’d like to promote energy security in Northern Wisconsin, keep taxes under control. and support Northern Wisconsin values.
