UWS men’s & women’s soccer win ways into UMAC championships
Both the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s and women’s soccer teams are bound for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championships. The Yellowjackets each picked up UMAC playoff semifinal wins Wednesday in Superior to advance to the title game.
First, the No. 1 UWS men defeated the No. 4 University of Northwester 5-1. Josh Bellamy scored their first goal in just the third minute, then was followed by two goals from Superior native Jake Kidd. Phillip Eriksen added another before halftime for the 4-0 UWS lead. The Eagle’s sole goal came from Jared Mojardin early in the second, and then Eriksen wraps up the scoring for the Yellowjackets to win 5-1.
UWS (16-3-2) advances to host No. 2 Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC championship game Saturday. Kickoff is set for Noon at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium. For the playoff bracket, Click here.
The No. 1 UWS women then took down No. 4 Crown 4-1. UWS’ first goal was tipped in by Crown off a Niya Wilson shot. Crown’s Emma Domka then tied the game 1-1 in the 34th minute, before Niamh Larson gave UWS back the lead before halftime. Allison Alessi and Lindrey Schendel each scored in the second half for the 4-1 UWS victory.
UWS (14-7) advances to host No. 2 Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC championship game Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium. For the playoff bracket, Click here.
