No. 4 UMD women’s hockey gears up to battle the No. 3 Golden Gophers
The No. 4 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team will face off against the No. 3 ranked University of Minnesota at AMSOIL Arena this weekend.
The Bulldogs have not topped the Gophers since March of 2022, but they did best Ohio State in September, who is only one of two teams to beat the Gophers so far this season.
“They have a ton of talent, a ton of speed. You know, they come at you really, really hard, super aggressive, 2-1-2 forecheck, that type of a thing. So again, a lot of it for us is going to be, you know, what’s the picture? How many are they sending at us? Cause it’s not always the same. That’s the best thing about hockey, it’s so dynamic, it’s constantly changing,” said UMD head coach Laura Schuler.
“With coming off our (three) off weekends, like we’re just really excited to play good hockey, and having them at home is always a treat. We’re really excited to play in front of our fans. But there’s nothing quite like playing the Gophers,” said Clara Van Wieren, a UMD graduate senior forward.
UMD enters with a season record of 6-3-1, while the University of Minnesota enters at 8-3-1. The Bulldogs and Gophers will begin play at 6PM on Friday at AMSOIL Arena. The series will conclude on Saturday at 3PM.
