Grand Portage port of entry poised for major renovations

A port of entry along our northern border with Canada is heading toward some major upgrades.

The Grand Portage land port of entry is located at the very tip of the arrowhead and is entirely on the Grand Portage reservation.

It processes commercial and non-commercial travelers between Neebing, Ontario and Grand Portage, Minnesota. A public hearing was held Tuesday night outlining a renovation of the facilities.

It was built in 1965 and a renovation project will expand and modernize the facilities, creating five vehicle traffic lanes and companion inspection booths, improving inspection officer safety and security while enabling the government to process border traffic more efficiently.

The draft environmental impact statement was presented at Tuesday night’s public hearing. The review and public comment period will remain open until December 16th.
