DanceWorks 2024 bringing students of all majors together
Opening Friday, UMD’s DanceWorks show is bringing together dancers and choreographers to showcase multiple numbers featuring all styles of dance.
Assistant Professor of Dance and Musical theatre, Matthew Wagner says that the show, “invites 19 choreographers to choreograph new work in jazz, tap, ballet, modern, improvisation, contemporary, swing dancing, musical theater.”
The audition process is also open to any student with any major. Opening the theatre up to people who might not have danced on the Marshall Performing Arts Center before.
“Anyone from any major, you don’t have to be associated with the theater department at all. That’s what’s fun about DanceWorks as well, you see so many different walks of life coming into Audition for DanceWorks and all these different dancers from different backgrounds, says senior Faith Fausone.

“What I find is that our students are working in ways that my brain can’t conceive of. The work that we’re seeing is really high quality and is inventive, really inventive. It’s pretty exciting to see what the future of dance in northern Minnesota is doing,” says Matthew Wagner.
