Lea Zmurko: Cold air continues

November 26: Chilly air continues

With colder temperatures on the way, lake effect precipitation will continue to bring in snow flurries and chilly breezes for many.

Roads are much clearer; however, holiday traffic may be another story. Temperatures will remain in the mid-20s today and tomorrow with winds from the northwest. There is still a chance for light snow and flurries to pass areas over the Arrowhead this morning, and lake effect snow will be continuous all week along the South Shore.

Overall, the accumulation will be minimal but as the air temperatures continue to drop off, the snow will form more efficiently across the lake. Accumulation will exponentially increase for the snowbelt in the following weeks.

A large cold air mass over the Northern Plains will lead to a cold snap by Thanksgiving as temperatures then trend below normal in the upcoming weekend, with overnight lows in the single digits and some areas in north central MN reaching zero.
