Justin Liles: Heavy snow for some and cold for all
Our strong northwest flow coupled with the coldest air of the year is going to create some lake effect snow not only for the south shore but for some of the inland lakes too. Some heavier accumulations are possible downwind of Lake of the Woods, Rainy/Namakan/Kabetogama Lakes, and Lake Superior. All the inland lakes up north could be looking at as much as 2-4”. This includes parts of highway 53 around the Ash Lake region and up to 2” of snow could work its way far enough south to impact Ely by Friday morning.
Gusty northwest winds will once again pick up Thursday night into Friday. Most of the widespread light snow chances will be on Thanksgiving, but lake-effect snow in far northern Minnesota and along the South Shore will be present daily. Heavy lake effect snow possible through Saturday morning for the south shore. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 14 inches possible if not more in areas of the higher terrain.
