No. 4 UMD women’s hockey fired up for final home series of 2024
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team will drop the puck at AMSOIL Arena for the final time in 2024 this weekend. They have two series left before winter break, the first being at home against the University of Vermont.
The fourth ranked Bulldogs will carry with them the momentum of a series sweep earned over Bemidji State University (BSU) last weekend, where they won 8-1 then 2-0.
“They [BSU] had some grade A chances against. And so when we went into the locker room, we talked about those chances against, and we just said, ‘that’s not Bulldog hockey’. We were starting to cheat more offensively and forgot about playing good Bulldog, structured, defensive hockey. And if we’re going to win a national championship, it can’t be every once in a while that you play defensive hockey. It has to be in the forefront of your thinking with everything that you do,” head coach Laura Schuler said.
UMD (8-5-1) and Vermont (3-11-2) have met only once before, back in 2017 in Vermont. Puck drop Friday in Duluth is set for 6 p.m., then Saturday at 3 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
