Galloping for Gobbles in the annual Thanksgiving 5K

In the snow filled morning of Thanksgiving, the community gathers for some turkey racing. The Duluth Running Company once again hosted their annual Gobble Gallup. This year being their 19th time hosting these events Thanksgiving morning.

Three free events run the course of the morning with people from all ages participating. It starts with the kids Gobble Giddy Up race of about a quarter mile, then the Tough Turkey a one-mile race, finishing with the Gobble Gallop 5k. Many people made their return from previous races, but despite the cold people kept spirits high.

This is the third largest race behind grandma’s full and grandma’s half. With over 2,000 people participating in the three events. 1.600 of those just in the Gobble Gallop 5K. The Tough Turkey started at 9am, then the 5K at 9:30am. The kids Gobble Giddy Up started the morning at 8am. The winners of each age category got to take home pie and some food as a reward for their racing efforts.

The 1st place of the 5K ran it in just above 15 mins, as the community cheered and celebrated all the racers. The race has only continued to grow each year, as people cross the finish line giving thanks to one another, before everyone went home to eat pie as the MC said.
