Sabrina Ullman: Widespread snow this week

December 1: Mid-week clipper

A clipper will move through on Tuesday, bringing widespread snow.

Tonight will be cloudy with a northwest wind of 5-10 mph. A few flurries are possible before 10 pm, and areas along the South Shore will continue to have lake-effect snow through Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Iron County until 6 pm Monday with up to five inches of snow expected.

Overnight lows will be in the single digits to low teens. Monday will be cloudy in the morning and mostly sunny in the afternoon. Highs will be near 20 degrees in the Twin Ports and areas north. Elsewhere, we will reach the mid-20s. Areas near the lake will be a few degrees warmer.

A quick clipper will move through the Northland on Tuesday, entering from the north. Snow will stay near the international border in the morning but become widespread by evening. The heaviest snowfall will be on Tuesday evening, potentially impacting the evening rush hour.

Snow will be lighter on Wednesday morning as the low-pressure system exits the region. Most of the area will see snow come to an end by noon. Blustery northwest winds Wednesday into Thursday will result in more lake-effect snow for the South Shore.

Accumulations Tuesday into Wednesday will be a trace to an inch for areas along and south of the I-35 corridor. Most of the Iron Range and areas northeast of Hayward will have 1-3 inches of snow. Areas along the international border, the Arrowhead region, Iron County, and the U.P. will have 3-6 inches of accumulation.

We will see a slight warming trend at the beginning of the week, with temperatures peaking in the upper 20s for some areas on Wednesday. As the clipper exits, cold air will usher in alongside the blustery northwest winds. Subzero wind chills are expected Wednesday night. Temperatures will gradually warm back to the 20s by next weekend.
