Justin Liles: Tracking more snow and bitter cold
There are more weather headlines we need to account for heading through the rest of the week. First, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued extended for the snowbelt until midnight tonight. A persistent northwesterly wind has kept the snow machine going for nearly a week now. The good news is that a little break is coming Tuesday. Another fast-moving clipper will bring snow to most of the northland. Winds out in front of this clipper will be from the south and the focus will then shift from lake effect on the south shore to lake effect on the north shore. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the shoreline and higher terrain of Cook County beginning Tuesday afternoon and lasting through the evening. As much as 4-8” of snow may fall in this watch zone.
Following this clipper gusty winds up to 40 mph and bitter cold return to the region Wednesday. The winds will be out of the northwest and again more lake effect snow is possible for the south shore and U.P. of Michigan Tuesday night through Thursday. Heavy snowfall is possible in these areas.
A pleasant weekend rounds off a cold and snowy week. The perfect weekend to get out and play.
