Justin Liles: Snow tonight & bitter cold with heavy S. Shore snow mid-week

December 9th: More snow and getting bitterly cold

More snow and getting bitterly cold

Low pressure moving east will cause light snow to end tonight. Gusty northwest winds will continue to bring in lake-effect snow to the snowbelt tonight and through the middle of the week. There is a Winter Weather Advisory for Iron and Gogebic Counties until 6am Tuesday morning. Some 3-6” amounts are possible here.

Much colder air moves back into the Northland for the middle of the coming week, with wind chills dipping as low as the teens to 20s below zero on Wednesday morning across northeastern Minnesota and 20 to near 40 below zero Thursday morning across most of the Northland. Frostbite occurs in as little as 15 minutes with these wind chills.

This cold will likely create heavy snows for the south shore Wednesday and Thursday too. The pattern will again shift by the weekend and bring in warmer temperatures.
