Duluth East boys soccer refocusing after graduating 17 seniors from state squad

Greyhound boys soccer was a team no one wanted to mess with last fall. Duluth East would finish the 2021 season 19-2-1 overall taking third place in the Class AAA state tournament.
Now the boys are back in action but are in a bit of a rebuilding phase after graduating 17 seniors.
“Out of those seniors the majority of them were starters,” head coach Corey Bachand explained. “We had a real nice bench to go to and now we’re kind of regrouping. Some of those underclassmen from last year that did get some time, now they’re my go to. So a lot for them to learn and understand how to play the full game type stuff.”
Junior defenseman Callum Greenan added, “we know it’s going to be a different type of year. We just need to play more as a team. We lost a lot of talented guys but we’ve been doing pretty well.”
Stacking their schedule early with a tough Twin Cities road slate East currently sits 2-1.
After finishing third at state the Duluth East boys soccer team is back in action, but in a bit of a rebuilding phase after graduating 17 seniors.
“I think it will get better and better with each day,” senior midfielder Evan Tomczyk said. “I think that as we’ve been going for the past few weeks it’s just been getting better and better.”
On Thursday they head to North St. Paul with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
The Greyhounds home opener is scheduled for Thursday, September 8 against Bemidji.
