Creating a dementia-friendly holiday
With the holiday season underway, Stacy Crawford of Klear Water Coaching and Wellness offers some advice for those who are caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s.
Let go of logic. People with Alzheimer’s do not have the ability to use logic. There is no reason to correct or argue with them.
Be in the present. The present moment is the one we have. It isn’t tied to a date or day of the week or tune, We likely create anxiety projecting dates, times, and appointments on our loved ones.
Keep celebrations short. Let go of complexity. Celebrations that are kept smaller may serve our loved ones best.
Focus on what they can do. Rather than what they can’t.
