The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team is all done for 2024. They closed it out nicely too, last weekend beating No. 8 St. Cloud State University once in regulation, and in a shootout, to enter the holiday break 11-5-2.

However, despite being ranked fourth in the nation, UMD is still looking to improve.

“Offensively continuing to, I feel like we play a little bit too perimeter. So we got to continue to work to get inside the dot lines there. And then defensively, there are some things that we did tweak with our system and so, I thought we did an okay job with it, but we still need to be better with it,” head coach Laura Schuler said.

UMD as a team may be off for the rest of this month, but many Bulldogs are staying busy with international tournaments. Four are skating in the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour, which began Wednesday. Ida Karlsson is with team Sweden, while team Canada boasts Ève Gascon, Tova Henderson, and Caitlin Kraemer.

“To get the opportunity to play for their country, just so proud of them. Before they left, I text each and every one of them just letting them know how excited we are for them. And they’re continuing to put UMD on the map for us, too. So every time they’re out there, they’re not only representing their countries, but representing our amazing university,” Schuler said.

The Bulldogs take a six game unbeaten streak into their three week break. They return to action Thursday, January 2 (2:00 p.m.) and Friday, Jan. 3 (3:00 p.m.) hosting Syracuse University at AMSOIL Arena. This series was previously postponed early this season.
