The UMD women are focused on a rebound at Romano Gym, sitting just 2-6 having dropped their last three games.
“I think a lot of the results haven’t looked our way, but what a lot of people aren’t seeing is every day in practice. We are continuing to get better every single day. We’re a young team, and there’s going to be some little hiccups along the way, but we’ve gotten so much better already,” Johanna Miller said, a graduate student center.
“Hopefully we can play really, really well and get our defense going in the right direction,” head coach Mandy Pearson said. “And then Wayne is the same system. They run so much stuff, there’s so many set plays, a lot of trick plays, which for young kids is challenging. And so this will be a really good learning game for us too. When we’re implementing things at practice, now we can have film to say, okay, this is what we taught, this is what we did, what we weren’t doing. And I think we’ll see some really good things that are going to help us get better.”
UMD tips off against Augustana Friday at 5:30 p.m., then battles Wayne State Saturday at 3:30 p.m. They even get a mid-week matchup Wednesday, hosting Winona State at 5:30 p.m. at Romano Gym.
